A particularly aesthetic example, Rio Pesquero type mask, carved without metal tools, using stone and obsidian to cut, and jade or quartz dust to polish. These type of masks were commissioned for Olmec political and religious leaders, and were valued for the quality and color of the stone and the skill of the craftsmanship. "The Snake was an important symbolic animal in Aztec culture, associated with rebirth, and the earth's fertility; associated with Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent. This snake presents a large head, bifurcated tongue, sunken eyes carved by core drilled method. the body is a tightly wound knot and shows seven rattles at the end of its tail. There is an oval shaped concavity in the back of the figure possibly left there on purpose. Some light colored mineral deposits are present on its surface." Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec culture, ca. 1200 to 800 BC. Hollow pottery baby figure with earflares, with repeating dentils in the form of necklace, headdress and belt with outstretched arms and legs. Faint remnants of red/orange/yellow pigment throughout. This realistic baby face is not hugely exaggerated but large double protruding mounds atop the head give this piece it’s characteristic supernatural "baby face" features. Coveted 'Blue Jadeite' Floral carved Ear Flares, each with bow drilled holes each corner for additional beads. The central portal has correct striations. The Front of each is carved with 3/4 crescent pedals resembling a flower, the blue green jade is translucent and quite acoustic. Earflares were seen by the Maya as small-scale metaphysical portals’ or pathways into the body. The Maya term for death ‘och bih’ (the enter/travel on the road) is depicted in hieroglyphic inscriptions as a snake diving into an ear flare. The ear flares also transformed the sounds heard by the owner into ‘divine, sacred, perfumed, and precious phenomena’ Each measure approx 2 1/8" x 2 1/8" (some areas slightly larger/smaller) x 3/4" wide with a nearly 1" hole

Cased Ship -3 mast Schooner Rigged Model Ship Sea Witch Green and black highly rigged Schooner measures 31" x 21" and Includes Plexiglas Case that covers the base. Sea Witch was an American clipper ship designed by naval architect John W. Griffiths for the China trading firm of Howland & Aspinwall. She was launched at Smith & Dimon in Manhattan on December 8, 1846. Sea Witch, in fact, had more influence on the configuration of fast vessels than any other ship built in the United States. Vessels built in general accordance with the Sea Witch model were known as clippers, a term already well entrenched in the language of fast vessels. The figurehead was a Chinese dragon with an open mouth and a partly coiled tai. "Howland & Aspinwall gave the command of Sea Witch to Captain Robert Waterman, known in the trade as "Bully Bob" Waterman. In 1847, under Waterman, she made a record-setting run from Hong Kong to New York in 77 days. She lowered this record to 74 days under the same captain in 1849. This March 1849 mark is one of the longest-lived human speed records, bettered only in May 2003 by the trimaran Great American II in 72 days 21 hours 11 minutes 38 seconds"
