Boris Kramer (1969 - CAD)
Boris began learning blacksmithing techniques at a young age, through his father Richard Kramer, as art and metal was a part of their daily life. Richard in turn had been working with metal since the age of 14 and began his studio while in his 30’s. In 1995, after completing his Fine Arts Degree at McMaster University, Boris committed his artistic future to metal and joined his father at the forge.
Although he has always shared his father’s fascination with human relationships, Boris has clearly developed his own unique style over the past several years. His studio has become well known for its rounded, semi-abstract human forms developed by Richard to express various human relationships and the positive aspects of life.
"I am a sculptor. I heat and hand forge metal until it gives form to expressions of human energy as it engages and relates. When heated, metal is extremely forgiving- that's why I chose this medium. Through it, I explore the forces that draw us together and that separate us from both ourselves and each other. Having experienced both great tragedy and joy in my own life, I want my art to sustain relevant and meaningful encounters.”
