Up for auction is an exceptionally rare and pristine Lee Enfield No.4 MK1 (T) M47C, one of the finest examples of British sniper rifles from World War II. This 25" barrel rifle is chambered in .303 British, featuring a 10-round detachable magazine, and retains all matching serial numbers, underscoring its authenticity and collector's value. It was manufactured by Birmingham Small Arms (BSA), one of the prominent British arms manufacturers during the war. This particular model, marked "M47C," indicates BSA's production at their Shirley plant. With fewer than 100 units produced, this rifle is an exceedingly rare find. The No.4 MK1 (T) was developed specifically as a sniper variant of the standard No.4 rifle. It was hand-selected for superior accuracy and then converted to sniper specifications. This example is equipped with the No.32 Mk2/1 telescope rifle scope, which was an upgrade from earlier models. The scope allowed for precise adjustments, enabling snipers to accurately engage targets at longer ranges, a critical capability on the battlefields of WWII. The optic mount is sturdy, maintaining zero even after repeated shots, a feature that made the No.4 MK1 (T) one of the most effective sniper rifles of the era. This rifle includes the original bayonet charger, adding to its historical authenticity. The bayonet was a standard-issue accessory, allowing soldiers to adapt their rifles for close-quarters combat. The rifle also features a Full Technical Repair (FTR) by Miltech, ensuring it retains its original wartime configuration while being fully restored to its factory condition. Despite this restoration, the rifle has never been fired, and the bore remains unfired, maintaining its "mint" condition status. The wood stock and metal components are in excellent condition, reflecting the careful preservation of this historical piece. The Lee Enfield No.4 MK1 (T) was renowned for its robust design, smooth bolt action, and ability to maintain accuracy over extended periods. During WWII, these rifles were handpicked for accuracy before being converted into sniper models, then fitted with scopes and cheek rests, making them some of the most sought-after precision rifles by Allied forces. They played a crucial role on the Western Front, in North Africa, and across the varied terrains of the global conflict, offering British and Commonwealth snipers a reliable, precise tool for long-range engagements. This specific rifle comes in excellent condition, with an unfired bore and all original components, including the No.32 Mk2/1 scope, matching serial numbers, and the military-issue bayonet charger. Such well-preserved examples are rare, making this a prized addition to any collection of WWII firearms or military memorabilia. Please see photos for more details.
