She did not have formal art training, with the exception of taking two workshops with the late Joe Abbrescia, whom she considers to be one of her mentors. She has worked hard to develop her own style of expressing herself on paper and canvas. She has been referred to as a Contemporary Expressionist, and a Colorist. Her paintings are a contemporary expression of her subject matter, both through her choices of vibrant color, and even the use of very little color, yet more gestural lines, and the textures and marks that she makes. “I have always drawn my inspiration from the incredible views, skies, colors and landscapes of the West. My passion for horses, and my love for the animals and wildlife that make Montana and the West their home, are truly my inspirations, and what I feel compelled to paint.” Spending much of her life in Montana has allowed Carol to nurture a deep love of the American West. She is constantly in awe of its raw, spectacular beauty and grand vistas, rolling grassy hills and stunning mountains, and that animals that inhabit this incredible place. She has loved horses for as far back as she can remember. She particularly enjoys trying to capture the fluidity of their graceful, forceful forms and movements in her paintings, through brushstrokes, marks, texture, and color. “Horses are old souls. The quiet exchange of positive energy and communication that takes place just from standing next to a horse, or within a group of horses, is simply extraordinary. They hold within them a silent calm, yet a powerful sense of acceptance, grace, wisdom, and strength.” Carol’s paintings are now in private and corporate collections across the United States and the world. His masterful use of pastels creates palpable textures and dynamic sensations of movement, form and space. Bold and expressive hues, often juxtaposed against white or abstracted backgrounds, imbue Terry’s compositions with the power and emotional impact that characterize his wildlife subjects. Terry began painting with oil on canvas as early as the fourth grade, and later earned a degree in fine art at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he had received a full scholarship for basketball. After an extensive career in commercial art, Terry decided to devote his full time to his first love, which was fine art. Poulsen (b. 1952, Akron Ohio) and moved to Cody, Wyoming, when he was thirteen to work on his parents’ 15,000-acre cattle ranch. After serving in the Marine Corps, he studied art at Arizona State University in Tempe, then dropped out to study with his neighbor and renown Western artist James Bama. His love for Art and the West evolved from working and painting the people he has met and the scenes he has observed throughout the years. Early in his painting career, Poulsen painted landscapes, still lives and figurative scenes but after he discovered Western paintings by Charles Russell, he decided to focus on Western Art. Poulsen exhibited a one-man show at the Capitol Rotunda in July of 1992 in Washington, D.C. and was the first Western artist to exhibit in Russia as part of a cultural exchange. Today, Poulsen’s art career spanned over 45 years. He participates annually in shows and exhibitions across the country, including those held by the Autry National Center in Los Angeles; the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma; the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming; the C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, Montana; the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in Indianapolis. His work is featured in galleries in New Mexico, Wyoming, Utah, California and Arizona. His portraiture work has led him to commissions for the Pentagon, The John Hopkins Hospital, The Smithsonian Native American Museum, LDS Church Museum, Brigham Young University Museum as well as numerous private commissions from prominent figures across the United States. She started painting in acrylics and oil. Over the years she has been fortunate to attend many workshops with professional artists. Carol Hagan, Michele Usibelli, Brent Cotton, Denny Neville, Larry Pirnie, Laurie Lee, Julie Oriet and John Potter to name a few. These artists have enriched her interest and skill in technique, color and Plein Air (outdoor) painting. Over the years she has added silk painting to the mediums she enjoys. This technique she learned from the master silk artist Nancy Cawdrey Dunlop. Sally won first place in the annual CCAL show with one of her silk paintings. She has painted one of the fiberglass bears you see around town and most recently the fiberglass bison she painted for the West Park Hospital fundraiser sold for the highest price at auction for $7500.00. It is now in a private collection. Sally is well known for her donations locally to various fundraisers and is happy to make a contribution when time allows to many of the requests she receives annually. Sally lives in Wapiti on the North Fork with her husband Ron, and Cat Boo Boo Kitty. This has been their home for over 20 years. She has served as a board member of the Cody Art League for many years also serving as President for four years.

He was born in 1960 to sculptor Ken and Priscilla Payne. Moving to a ranch in New Mexico instilled in Vic the roots of the West and became central in the shaping of this sculptor’s character. His families’ ranching heritage, tales of Billy the Kid, the Lincoln County Wars, pictures of paintings and bronzes by Charlie Russell and Frederic Remington made the “Old West” come alive and inspired Vic to try his own hand at sculpting. Vic’s distinctive style and artistic approach to sculpting along with his attention to detail is widely recognized as being imaginative and innovative, chronicling the life and era of our nation’s history. A sculptor of various sizes, including monumental bronzes, Vic’s mission is to lead the viewer through an emotional journey telling a story with his art. Whether he is creating wildlife, Native American or Western sculpture his passion is to capture the spirit of the West evoking the pioneering, independent, mystical spirit of the land and its people. Sonja attended college at the University of Wyoming and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Although art was always her passion, she started her nursing career in 1994 and raised two children. Now that her children are grown and starting their own lives, Sonja now has more time to devote to doing what she loves the most. Sonja is a self-taught artist. Painting and drawing skills came naturally to her and with daily practice she continues to develop and improve with every work of art she creates. She attends classes and workshops frequently to continue to learn and implement new techniques, but her individual style shows through in everything she creates. She is currently selling her art and accepting commissions for a variety of subject matter. Oil paint is the preferred medium to work with and prepared, cradled wood panels is the preferred surface. In the summer of 2018 Sonja Jackson was selected to be the featured artist in the Lander Art Center Members' Newsletter. She is a member of the Cody Country Art League and was the featured artist member in January 2024. On March 1, 2024 Sonja made art her full-time career! She is still a nurse and can be found helping out in Labor and Delivery from time to time but her main focus for the next chapter of her life will be devoted to art and creating wonderful new oil paintings!

Dolly’s grandfather was an expert fly fisherman and started taking her fishing outside of Livingston, Montana from the time she was four years old. Her art has been influenced by all these life experiences. Twenty years ago, Dolly moved to Red Lodge, Montana and started living her dream life.
