226 Ebony Ultimatum Brace - Trade Brace Estimate: 300.00 - 350.00 CAD
This brace is unmarked and would have been intended for sale through various outlets. Although there is provision for an ivory ring, there is none there. It is quite possible there was none there in the first place - as this would have been wholesale'd out. All said and done, it is structurally in good shape. This is a continental style of backing tool. The segments are not hammered - they are rolled with the curved serrated end. This is a reproduction tool and it was quite difficult to make - particularly filing out the hand grip in brass.
348 Outstanding Provenanced Quebec Checker Board Estimate: 800.00 - 1,200.00 CAD
After I found this checker board, I was surprised to find this couple in the old census records. Josef Samson and Marie Alice Douville were married at St. Nicolas, Quebec in 1915. It took quite a while to determine what this was – I’m still not sure. It appears to be made by a harness maker or a capable leather-worker.
