About the Artist
As a youngster in Corpus Christi, Texas, Mark Pettit showed a strong interest in drawing, particularly landscapes. Later, with a degree in commercial art to his credit, he decided to devote his full attention to developing himself as a fine artist. At the Schuler School of Fine Art in Baltimore, he learned how to apply the centuries-old techniques and mediums of the Old Masters who achieved a luminous quality in their paintings. Today, Pettit's primary subject matter is still the panoramic American landscape. Combining his own style with that of the Flemish painters and utilizing custom mediums to create vast dimensions, he brings the great outdoors inside with sensitivity and skill. Pettit demonstrates a unique link between classic and modem painting which is also represented in his romantic, traditional still lifes.
