This Third Issue 5c Fractional note is a Face Specimen, and has a lot going for it. Of course, not only is it a specimen, but it has the courtesy autograph of J.N. Huston, United States banker, businessman, and politician who served as Treasurer of the United States from 1889 to 1891. This note is also originally from the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection who was an American numismatist from Hollywood, California, known for his extensive collection of historical currency and medals. Ford largely collected American coinage, particularly U.S. colonial coins, medals, and obsolete U.S. and colonial currency. It is estimated that the total value of his numismatic holdings was upwards of $55 million at the time of his death in 2005. Additional provenance from the Cain Collection is on the label. Using an old family name, The Caine Collection was formed over a long period of years by Charles Anderson. This particular note is graded by PCGS as About New-53, with all notations and provenance on the label.
