The Chin Hua Collection was highly successful, running from 1975 until its retirement in 1998, and was reissued in 2012 due to its lasting appeal. Although unmarked, this piece closely resembles Sobota's iconic designs. The chest features a striking black lacquered wood frame with Ming-style legs, and a stunning burl wood top, sides, rear and drawer faces. Handles have a moth pattern and corners capped with brass. This piece adds a sophisticated presence to any room. Its clean lines and timeless style make it versatile, fitting seamlessly into various design aesthetics, from mid-century modern to industrial.
Raymond K. Sobota (1914-2010) was an acclaimed American furniture designer who played a pivotal role at Century Furniture for over four decades, designing more than 150 collections. Sobota’s background in design, coupled with his apprenticeship with his uncle Karl Schmidt, influenced his innovative work, blending classic styles with modern sensibilities.
