Terms and Conditions
LEGAL NOTICE: Bidding in our auctions indicates an agreement between the auction house and the bidder to follow through on all terms and conditions. Each party to this agreement irrevocably agrees that the courts of New Hampshire, USA, shall have exclusive jurisdiction to hear, settle and/or determine any dispute, controversy or claim (including any non-contractual dispute, controversy or claim) arising out of or in connection with this agreement, including any question regarding its existence, validity, formation or termination. For these purposes, each party irrevocably submits to the jurisdiction of the New Hampshire, USA courts.
Please scroll down for Abbreviations and Grading Policy, such as what our meaning is when we say a watch is "running." (See our website at www.jones-horan.com for more information.)
BIDDING NOTE: There is a cap of $10,000 on each bid. If you wish to place a bid over $10,000 on an item, please contact us more than 24 hours in advance of the auction's end time.
ATTENTION NEW CLIENTS: Unvetted new clients should expect shipping delays unless references are provided or payment is made by wire transfer or Zelle.
BIDDING NOTE FOR BEGINNERS: When placing a bid, please note that EVEN IF the bid is accepted, it does not necessarily mean you are now the high bidder. (Another bidder may have previously bid higher than your current bid, so he/she is the high bidder.) The box will turn green if you are the winning bidder or red if you are not the winning bidder.
LAST MINUTE BIDDERS: Take advantage of the special "Live Catalog" feature that becomes available 30 minutes before the first lot closes. (See our How to Bid page at www.jones-horan.com for more explanation.) ALSO, please be aware that this bidding system is not as responsive as some other online auction forums with which you may already be familiar. If you attempt to bid in the very last seconds, there is a possibility the system will not recognize your bid in time and you will lose out on winning that lot. Please allow yourself enough time to get your bid in before the lot closes.
AFTER AUCTION INVOICING: Please note if you do not receive an invoice by email by Friday morning following the auction, please check your spam or junk folder. Payment is expected within 10 days of auction. A shipping charge will be added to each invoice. If your invoice states the "SHIPPING CHARGE WILL BE ADDED ONCE ITEMS ARE PACKAGED," we will add it as soon as possible, within 1-2 business days.
* There is NO Buyer's Premium and NO Reserves.
* Payment by cash (in person), check, wire transfer, Wise (formerly TransferWise), Zelle, GobalPay or PayPal. PLEASE NOTE: There is a 3% processing fee added to invoices for payments made through PayPal or GobalPay. Please disregard that fee if paying by any other method, including cash, check, wire transfer, Wise, or Zelle.
* A SHIPPING CHARGE WILL BE ADDED TO ALL INVOICES. BIDDING IN OUR AUCTION CONSTITUTES AGREEMENT WITH OUR SHIPPING TERMS AND POLICIES. PLEASE SEE LOT 1 AND/OR OUR WEBSITE UNDER AUCTIONS/SHIPPING. Contact us for a quote for International shipping charges, if desired.
* We reserve the right to cancel and/or reopen the auction in the case of system failures.
ALL DESCRIPTIONS GUARANTEED, 10-DAY RETURN PRIVILEGE FOR MISREPRESENTATION OR ERRORS. If returning a lot with multiple items, all items must be returned. See our website for our full return policy.

Key to abbreviations: "APW" = American pocket watch | "cal" = caliber | "ct" = carat weight | "ctw" = total carat weight for multiple stones | "DS" = double sunk (for dials) | "dwt" = pennyweight (20 per ounce troy) | "EPW" = European pocket watch | "g" = gram (31.1 per troy ounce) | "GJS" = gold jewel setting(s) | "HC" = hunting-case | "hl" = hairline(s) | "hls" = hairlines | "J" = jewel(s) | "K" = karat of gold quality | "KW" = key-wind | "KWKS" = key-wind and key-set | "LS" = lever set | "mm" = millimeter | "mvt" = movement | "NOS" = new old stock | "NR" = not running | "OF" = open face | "PW" = pocket watch | "QS" = quick set | "ref" = reference | "RR" = railroad | "S" = size |"s#" = serial number | "SS" = single-sunk (for dials) | "SW" = stem wind | "SW-LS" = stem wind and lever set | "SW-SS" = stem-wind and stem-set (pendant set) | "WW" = wrist watch
The Jones & Horan plain English grading system follows this general order from top to bottom for mvts, component parts, metal dials, and hands: Pristine (without defect, untouched) | Mint | Nearly Mint | Excellent | Fine (the average grade for most used, running watches) | Fair | Poor. We no longer use "good" as a grade as it can be misleading, so it only applies to function (see below). We then describe any salient defects that should be called to the attention of the potential buyer.
With respect to wear, we also use the following terms in order: No wear | Hardly any wear | Very little wear | Little wear | Very light wear | Light wear | Medium wear | Ample wear | Substantial or abundant wear | Worn out. These general terms are used in combination with precise descriptions of defects for further elaboration where needed.
Enamel dials are not necessarily graded, but called "flawless" when free of cracks, chips or hairlines, which are structural and always noted. Surface defects such as scratches, discoloration or graphical defects may be present on a flawless dial, and are noted separately.
The term, "Good," is only used alone to indicate that the watch or its function is doing what it should be doing, as in "good running order, good repeat function and tone, good chronograph and date functions," etc. These functions are not rated or graded. "Good crystal" means without meaningful defect, as does "Good dial."
"Running" only means that the balance and escapement are performing in healthy fashion and without apparent defect, but does not guarantee timekeeping or warrantee future performance; unless otherwise noted, our timepieces are not serviced by us, and we do not know when they were last serviced from our sources. We do our best to indicate any potential problems or needs for repair.

Domestic customers: If you desire faster delivery, please notify us immediately. For a fee covering the additional shipping cost, we can arrange FedEx overnight shipping, and even Saturday delivery.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: Feel free to contact us for a quote on shipping charges. We are willing to ship to an address within the United States if submitted in wiriting by the client. We will ship all packages valued at $500 USD or under via USPS Priority Mail in our own boxes. IF YOU DO NOT WANT PACKAGES (valued at $500 USD or under) SHIPPED VIA FEDEX, PLEASE NOTIFY US BEFORE MAKING PAYMENT. Where the value valued over $500 USD, we will ship via FedEx International. IF YOU DO NOT WANT PACKAGES (valued over $500 USD) SHIPPED VIA FEDEX, PLEASE NOTIFY US BEFORE MAKING PAYMENT. DHL is also available but is more costly than FedEx. Please contact us before making payment if you wish us to ship via DHL. PLEASE NOTE: We will not change values on customs documents. Any statements generated by Jones & Horan will reflect the values achieved at the auction.
*PLEASE NOTE that we always use FedEx 2nd day Express, but during the holiday season (end of November and throughout December), FedEx does not guarantee two-day delivery. In fact, during that time period, FedEx sometimes delivers a day early!
