13.3 hh solid and chunky
Rising 13years
Burnt buckskin with unique white markings.
Possibly a Brumby but cannot confirm his breeding. Cob type.
Move over into the slow lane please, if you're after more whoa than go, and maybe ride once or twice a week then Benjee could be your next best friend.
Very much need to push this boy along into his rocking horse canter if you want to go faster than a trot.
He has lovely natural self carriage and you can push him into a nice working trot, but his top speed still only feels like you're in second gear.
He doesn't love arena work but tries hard for you, and does a lovely dressage test.
He doesn't love jumping but he can, he just prefers small ones or if he had his way none at all.
I feel he is best suited to a farm or trail life.
When he goes to a show or event with lots of high energy he can be a fidget whilst tied up but as the day goes on and he's had time to take it in and some reassurance, bit of a walk around he's fine. Nothing too much more than fidgeting or a little burst of energy & sometimes a hump.
He has his pony moments we call his bluff when not wanting to do a task a bit of a pigroot in protest, and maybe taking a couple of steps backwards, as I say it's not all the time, usually when we go to a new place or if he's bored of the arena work, or just trying to get out of something he really doesn't want to do. Most things he just goes with the flow.
He can be a sook, call out and give himself some extra exercise if his paddock mate leaves, but doesn't need a pal when riding.
He might get sooky if you're riding in a big group and he's suddenly left by himself.
My daughter started riding him when she was 10. He's taught her to ride and become comfortable with a bigger pony and stride. The more balanced rider she progressed into the more she has learnt to sit and handle the occasional pigroot and push him through his bluff moments.
I'm comfortable with her going out and riding him unsupervised in the arena or out on a trail, her confidence has grown and she reads him well.
He has some good basic education and is responsive to his aids, although push along he's not numb to what you are asking.
Regularly attends Pony Club and has dabbled in other events such as western, equitation, ANZAC dawn service, even ridden through town to KFC
Has been ridden by all level riders in the time we have owned him, but mainly beginner and novice.
I would suggest someone confident or a mother returning to ride to ensure he doesn't get away with his bluff, as he needs to be ridden with a crop to remind him to get on with the task at times.
Although he has had complete beginners, to get best out of him someone with a balanced seat, walk, trot & canter will do best.
Soft mouth
Prefer loose rein
No bite, bolt, kick, will stand all day to be pampered and brushed.
Easy to load and float.
Great for farrier and dentist.
Is a great little trail pony, he loves the trail rides
Good with traffic, dogs and other horses
Easily ridden bareback in a halter
Loves water, loves swimming in summer
Easy keeper & very hardy
Possible contraction (tightness) in his scapulars managed with the pole work and stretching.
He is loveable & huggable.
We don't have trouble catching him but if you do all you have to do is shake the bread bag!
He can be a bit of a paddock boss but is respectful to the others and will share his feed once the pecking order is sorted out.
Only selling as his rider is growing and would like to sell to purchase something taller, and we feel he is too slow for our next rider who likes to zip around a bit faster.
He has been a good stepping stone for her and we will miss being able to just drag him out and jump on.
