NAME: Sophie
BREED: Percheron x Cob
SEX: Mare
HEIGHT: 15.1hh(Not measured)
AGE: 15
I have owned Sophie since January this year. Prior to coming to me, Sophie was advertised on this site twice, in Dec 23 then again in Jan 24. She was passed in on both occasions. Her ad for those sales read:
Sofie 15yo 15.1 hh grey Cob x Percheron mare ride and drive single and double harness. Been used to teach students how to drive children and novices under supervision. Been driven amongst traffic trams cars buses etc. been in parades good with crowds weddings and Debs good to catch shoe and float very reluctant sale.
I have a soft spot for carriage horses and she needed somewhere to go so I took her on. When she arrived, she was skinny and her feet were overgrown with under run heels. She had definitely been doing it tough for some time. Along with increasing her food, she's been wormed three times, vaccinated, treated for ulcers, and given a course of pentosan plus had her teeth done. She had a wolf tooth on the upper off side which has been removed. Her feet have responded well to good trimming and her farrier says she now has great feet.
Sophie was broken to harness but not saddle. She didn't know what legs meant so she's had 5 weeks of ridden training and has done really well.
She's great to catch, rug and behaves perfectly for the farrier. She's also very respectful of fences. She has no scars or signs of past injuries that I've found.
I've now done what I can for her and she's ready to find her forever person. Please note, she is green under saddle and not currently suitable for beginners. I believe in time, with more ridden work, she would be but at the moment she needs a balanced rider with an independent seat to help her continue to improve as a ridden horse.
It has been a pleasure to help Sophie and I know she will make a great horse for someone. She is currently very hairy and muddy but it's far too cold to wash her.
