Lead Early Glasseye Black Duck - Mason Decoy Factory
Description
Mason Decoy Factory (1896-1924) Detroit, MI c.1900 16" long In the first half of the 00's, the orders coming into the shed sized factory outgrew capacity and led to the creation of the more uniformed, lathe turned bodies, seen in the later half of the 00's. Surviving in far fewer numbers, this black duck is an example from the period just before their expansion. The concept of 'Standard Grade' Glasseye models was just starting to take hold. The hand carved body is slightly larger, the neck seat is far more pronounced, and the bold chest protrudes outward. All of those characteristics are evident from the more commonly made Challenge and Premier grades at that time. The untouched example has survived the roughly 125 years in quite appealing condition. The dry paint is vibrant on all sides, including the head. Condition: Original with light gunning wear to include some dents and pant scuffs. Neck filler is missing. Tight age split in bottom.

We will accept all major credit cards, cash, and good check made out to American Sporting Auctions. If you wish to pay with check please arrange ahead of time by contacting Mike Martin at 315-576-6058 or AmericanSportingAuctions@gmail.com. If check isn't received within 2 weeks of the sale, we will process your card on file. Please note there is a 5% service fee added onto all Credit or Debit card payments to bring the total buyers premium to 25%.
Convenient In-house shipping is provided at the buyers expense. Shipping is charged with the initial bill. Upon successful payment of your entire bill we will provide you with tracking and ship out your lot. Shipping is done on a first come first serve basis and may take up to 3 weeks to ship. Your shipping bill will include our cost of postage, labor, materials, and insurance. If you have your own insurance or wish to ship your lots uninsured, we require you to let us know in writing immediately on the close of the auction. We also offer pick up (free) and delivery to shows ($10 per lot), please arrange these requests prior to the auction as we may or may not be able to accommodate your request. Under no circumstances will we be liable for damage to glass or frames, or fragile decoratives, regardless of cause.
