Lead 1/3 Size Flying Mallard Drake - Roy Conklin
Description
1/3 size Flying Mallard Drake Roy Conklin (1909-1967) Alexandria Bay, NY c.1940 8" Around 1929, Roy was working seasonal occupations including as a fishing guide and boat captain. While not working, Roy was actively carving with Chauncey Wheeler (1862-1937) and Frank Coombs (1882-1958). Their efforts to create sculptural and finely painted decoys influenced Roy greatly in not only what he made but how he made them. With all the sculptural elegance of his mentor, Roy was able to impart his own touch in the form of vibrant paint. The combination of which famous painter, Lynn Bogue Hunt would come to publicly compliment him for later on in life. Very well preserved example that is a touch larger than usual. It was nicely painted and has comb feathering on the back. The body is entirely one piece with a single wing and foot attached. The back bears a single impression of Roy's copyright ink stamp as well as the species name written in pencil. Condition: Near mint with a paint flake on the eyebrow and a tiny spot missing from the wing tip

We will accept all major credit cards, cash, and good check made out to American Sporting Auctions. If you wish to pay with check please arrange ahead of time by contacting Mike Martin at 315-576-6058 or AmericanSportingAuctions@gmail.com. If check isn't received within 2 weeks of the sale, we will process your card on file. Please note there is a 5% service fee added onto all Credit or Debit card payments to bring the total buyers premium to 25%.
Convenient In-house shipping is provided at the buyers expense. Shipping is charged with the initial bill. Upon successful payment of your entire bill we will provide you with tracking and ship out your lot. Shipping is done on a first come first serve basis and may take up to 3 weeks to ship. Your shipping bill will include our cost of postage, labor, materials, and insurance. If you have your own insurance or wish to ship your lots uninsured, we require you to let us know in writing immediately on the close of the auction. We also offer pick up (free) and delivery to shows ($10 per lot), please arrange these requests prior to the auction as we may or may not be able to accommodate your request. Under no circumstances will we be liable for damage to glass or frames, or fragile decoratives, regardless of cause.
