Lead WWII BRITISH MEDAL LOT AFRICA STAR BURMA STAR WW2
Description
Lot of British Medals to include 1) BRITISH COMMONWEALTH AFRICA STAR MEDAL. The medal takes the form of a, bronze colored, six-pointed tombac star, 38mm from point to point, whose uppermost point features a suspension loop. To its slightly domed, obverse center is the stylized Royal Cypher "GRI," with "VI" beneath it, surmounted by a King’s crown and with "The Africa Star" scrolled around it. Its reverse is featureless. The medal has a ring fed through its suspension loop, with a ribbed ribbon of Pale Buff with a central Red stripe and two narrow stripes, Dark Blue to the left and Light Blue to the right. They represent the desert, the Navy, Army and Air Force. No pin back for the medal. There were eight campaign stars instituted for WW2 with the maximum of five allowed to be worn at one time. There were a number of bars issued for the stars but a maximum of one bar could be worn per star. The Africa Star was awarded for one or more days of service in an operational area of North Africa between 10 June 1940 and 12 May 1943. The 1st Army Clasp was awarded for service with the First Army between 8 November 1942 and 12 May 1943 inclusive. 2) BRITISH COMMONWEALTH AFRICA STAR MEDAL. The 1939–1945 Star is a military campaign medal instituted by the United Kingdom on 8 July 1943 for award to British and Commonwealth forces for service in the Second World War. 7) BRITISH 1939-45 DEFENCE MEDAL. The Burma Star is a military campaign medal awarded to British and Commonwealth forces who served in the Burma Campaign during World War II. The campaign took place from 1941 to 1945 in Burma, which was a British colony at the time. The medal was established in May 1945. To qualify for the Burma Star, service members must have served in Burma between December 11, 1941 and September 2, 1945. They may also qualify if they served in Bengal and Assam in India, or in China, Hong Kong, Malaya, or Sumatra between other specified dates. The Burma Star is a six-pointed star made of a yellow copper zinc alloy. The obverse side features a central design of the Royal and Imperial cypher, surmounted by a crown. The medal ribbon is 32 mm wide and has a red band in the middle to represent Commonwealth forces. On each side of the red band, there is a dark blue band to represent British forces, with an orange stripe in the middle of each blue band to represent the sun. The Burma Star Association is a British veterans' organization for those who served in the Burma Campaign and were awarded the Burma Star. The association was formed in 1951 to promote camaraderie and the welfare of its members. Members are allowed to wear a replica of the Burma Star as a lapel badge or cap badge. 10) BRITISH COMMONWEALTH PACIFIC STAR. The British Commonwealth Pacific Star is a military campaign medal awarded to British and Commonwealth forces who served in the Pacific theater of World War II from 1941 to 1945. The medal was established in May 1945 by the United Kingdom and was also awarded to personnel from Australia. The medal is a six-pointed star made of yellow copper zinc alloy with a central design of the Royal and Imperial cypher, surmounted by a crown. The cypher is surrounded by a circlet with the words "The Pacific Star" inscribed around it. The medal also comes with a ribbon that features a wide central stripe of green, a narrow yellow stripe, one dark blue stripe, and one light blue stripe with red edges. The colors of the ribbon represent the sun, British and Commonwealth forces, the forests and beaches of the Pacific, and the three services.
