Willy is a beautiful horse, he has a want-to-please type personality and enjoys being in work. He tends to get bored if he has not something to do. I purchased him about a year ago. He was a very scared and nervous/anxious boy. We have put a lot of time and training into him. He isn't perfect (yet) but as he matures I can see him being a wonderful horse. I think he is much too nervy to be anywhere like an arena or events, but would enjoy trail rides, from what the trainer said. He is confident under saddle, but needs an experienced handler. He has been to the beach and the You Yangs. Willy spent a total of 10 weeks at a professional trainer, being brought back into work and being exposed to things that made him anxious. However, he has not been ridden on a regular basis and therefore he is still classified as a green horse.
He has never windsucked, or been sick. He can be a little girthy when saddling up, (has had ulcer scan, and has a clean bill of health) but with time I think this will improve, as with most things with him, exposure is the key. You do need to be very black and white with his training. Know what you want to do and ask him and show him what you want, there is no in between with him. He really does aim to please and will look to you for guidance and reassurance that he is doing the right thing.
He is pretty good to float, takes a few mins to load (helps if there is hay for him) and backs off well. Easy to catch (once he knows you, and food is the key to his heart). Food wise, he is on a daily hard feed, pellets, chaff, copra and digestive EQ (which I strongly recommend you keep him on). He can be paddocked with other horses (loves mares) and is not buddy sour. I have never known him to buck, bolt or kick out but does like to nip sometimes but rarely does that now. Pretty good with picking up his feet, but does get impatient with it.
Willy is up to date with worming, dentist and farrier (6 weekly, barefoot) dentist is due in December. He needs an experienced horse person, that is firm but calm and patient. I emphasise the PATIENT! If you want to ride him the second you get him home, don't bother you will be disappointed. He will require a few weeks to settle into his new surrounding and start building trust with you. He was sold a few months ago to someone who took him home and tried to ride him the next day (even though I explicitly told her not to) she returned him because he was to anxious for her. He has calmed down so much since I have owned him, would go as far to say he is almost like a different horse. It is a sad sale, and all I want for him is to be happy. I will be on fb during the sales if you want to ask any questions.
