Admired as one of Honduras’s leading artist and honored as part of that country’s cultural heritage, Manuel Rodriguez Velásquez’s style of contemporary realism has seduced art lovers worldwide. His paintings have a unique ethereal quality that seem to capture that special essence of the subject, communicating emotions and giving the viewer a powerful vision of life’s journey. Whether it’s the soulful expression of his “Panchos”, the rich details of his “Mercado” series, or the masterful blend of hues he uses to develop his landscapes, Rodriguez Velásquez multi-faceted talent elevates his work to a special place in Latin American fine art.
Having participated in over 100 exhibitions, with more than half being solo shows, his paintings have been displayed at The Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, The Municipal Art Gallery in Jerusalem, Musée Luxembourg in Paris, Iberoamerican Biennial of Art in Mexico City, Honduran Institute of Interamerican Culture, Museo de las Casas Reales in Santo Domingo, and The Museum of Art Carrillo Gil in Mexico City, to just name a few. His works are included in important private collections, and can also be viewed on permanent exhibition at the Museo del Obispado Monterrey, Mexico, The Graham Center at Florida International University, Musée de Luxembourg in Paris and the Centro Cultural de Brasil in Madrid, among others.
Rodriguez Velásquez’s works have been featured in several art books, catalogs of private collections, and on a special edition postage stamp in Honduras. He has also been awarded the Diploma of Honor for his contributions to art by the government of Israel, the Gold Medal of Art in Paris, and special recognitions by the Mayors of Miami, Florida, San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and Monterray, Mexico.
Born in Cantarranas, Honduras in 1946, Manuel Rodriguez Velásquez graduated as an art teacher but continued his studies at the School of the Museum Fine Arts in Boston. He completed his post-graduate education at The University of San José, Costa Rica, and the Metropolitan Museum & Art Center of Miami, while also receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Thomas University in Miami, Florida.
