• Additional Brio Factoids: Brio Toys is a familiar name to toy collectors worldwide. The products of this long established company based in Sweden, were found in many upscale US Toy Stores
• In the early 1960’s Brio was a Mattel Distributor in Scandinavia and these scarce items, Dressed Box dolls, are very hard to come by
• The boxes used resemble shoe boxes and the top has great illustrations of vintage toys. On the bottom end flap there is a photo of a Barbie doll pictured in her outfit. The actual doll in the box often differed from the doll pictured on the end flaps, as the images were not standardized by the manufacturer. Instead, the images were often cut out by the toy stores themselves and pasted onto the end flaps of the box. This unique practice adds to the charm and scarcity of these items, as each box was somewhat customized based on the toy store's discretion. In most cases, collectors will find that the doll inside the box doesn’t match the one pictured on the end flap, making it even more special when they do.
