Description
Order of Sale: Fine Jewelry & Watches, Fine Art, Silver, Coins, Decorative Arts, The Early Photography Collection of Kenneth Rodgers In addition to our customary Jewelry, Silver, Coins & Fine Arts, we will be offering THE EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY COLLECTION OF KENNETH RODGERS comprising 150 lots of daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, and other early photography examples. Mr. Rodgers and his late wife Marya started collecting early photographs in the late 1970's. They ran an antiques business called Rodgers Antiques in Sullivan County, New York up until the late 1980's. Then bought and sold antiques mainly at shows into the 2000's. Mr. Rodgers went to Yale Divinity to become a Methodist Minister; while there he also earned his Master's degree in history. As a real history buff at 92 years young, he himself is a part of history. This collection was Mr. Rodgers passion, and he would like to see it all get a home, so someone else can appreciate it as much as he did, before his life ends - part of his bucket list. The collection features portraits of adults, family groups and children, Civil War soldiers, identified sitters, children with toys, instrument players, daily occupations, post mortem, dogs, horse-and-buggy, people with their pets, hunters, bicycles, and a number of other varied and interesting subjects including a quarter plate ambrotype period copy after Alexander Gardner's photograph of the execution of the Lincoln conspirators.
